Rodent Control

Rodents can be more than just a nuisance—they pose serious health risks, cause property damage, and can disrupt your daily life. At Pete’s Pest Control, we specialize in comprehensive rodent control solutions to keep your home or business safe and rodent-free. Our expert team is equipped with the knowledge, tools, and techniques needed to tackle even the toughest rodent problems in Kansas City and St Joseph.

Why Rodent Control is Important

Rodents, including rats and mice, are not just unwelcome guests. They can:

  • Spread Diseases: Rodents are carriers of several serious diseases, such as leptospirosis, hantavirus, and salmonella.
  • Cause Structural Damage: Their constant gnawing can damage electrical wires, insulation, and even weaken the structural integrity of your property.
  • Contaminate Food: Rodents can contaminate food sources, leading to potential health hazards and financial loss in places like food distribution centers or restaurants.
  • Create Unpleasant Odors: Their urine and droppings contribute to unpleasant and persistent odors.

Assessment and Exclusion

The first step in a proper rodent service is to determine where they are coming in. Mice can squeeze through a hole as small as 10 millimeters (the diameter of a pencil). Our technicians will inspect your home for entry points and fill any small holes with Xcluder (a steel wool material) that they can. Depending on your situation, we may decide that it’s best to exclude after trapping and baiting, and we may recommend larger repairs if necessary. We will also look for other conducive conditions that may be attracting rodents, and provide a report of our findings.

Traps and Baits

Depending on your unique situation, the technician may install a variety of traps and baits throughout the home or business. This can include exterior or interior bait stations, snap traps, or trap stations. Mice and rats are very smart, and may avoid these areas for days.

Follow-Up

Our rodent services include free follow ups for up to 30 days, or unlimited if you are on a plan with rodent coverage. We typically want to follow up within 1-2 weeks of your initial appointment, and then again 1-2 weeks later. The technician will recommend follow ups based on your individual needs.

Ongoing Protection

After treatment, we provide recommendations and ongoing maintenance plans to keep rodents at bay. Our goal is to not just solve your current problem, but also to prevent future issues. If you live in parts of the city with high rodent populations (like downtown Kansas City) or in areas with lots of vegetation/forestry nearby, it is possible the rodents will return. Keep rodents out long term with ongoing protection on our Silver or Gold Plan.

FAQs

You have questions. We have answers.

  • A common indicator of rodent activity is their droppings, which look like dark brown pieces of rice. You may find droppings behind your fridge or stove, or inside cabinets. You may also find urine spots, or pieces of nesting material.

  • Common rodents that invade homes and businesses are the House Mouse, Deer Mouse, and Norway Rat. For Vole or Squirrel services, see our Wildlife Services.

  • Rats are larger (sometimes double the size) than mice with a thicker tail, and are also much more difficult to trap due to their intelligence. Mice are generally smaller, with large ears and a thin tail.

  • Any rodent bait placed inside or around the home is secured in a locked container that only the mice can fit through. Let your technician know if you have an extra curious dog or cat so we can take additional precautions as needed. If your pet manages to chew through the container and consume the bait, please contact us for a copy of the label and head to the vet immediately. The rodenticide label has treatment instructions.
