Asian lady beetles are an overwintering pest that come in swarms looking for shelter as it gets colder. They will congregate outside houses, sheds, and other buildings in search of cracks and crevices to hide in over the winter. They are attracted to the sunlight and heat reflecting off of the south or southwest-facing sides of the building.
These are not your common lady bugs. Asian lady beetles come in many shades of red, orange, and yellow, with many spot combinations, and they have a distinct black “M” shape on their heads. They survive on a diet of aphids, and can eat as many as 5,000 aphids in their lifetime. They do not damage structures or spread disease, but they can bite!
