Most people have had ants in their kitchen at some point in their lives. In just one acre of land there can be upwards 40 million ants within multiple colonies. The most common ant found in homes is the Odorous Ant, given this name due to the rotten coconut smell they produce when crushed. They are commonly called “sugar ants” because they are attracted to sweet and sugary substances, but will also eat grease and protein-based substances depending on the colony needs. When an ant finds a food source they let other ants in their colony know by leaving an invisible pheromone trail, which the other ants will start to follow.
To help keep the activity at bay…
The most important aspect of ant control is BAIT. When ants find
the bait and bring it home to share, the active ingredient spreads
through the colony like a virus. Ants are very social and will help
each other when sick, which makes the elimination process fairly
quick, but it does take a few days for total elimination. It is
important for the house to stay clean, as crumbs on the counter
will be much more attractive to ants than our bait.
Although the bait may wipe out one colony, another one nearby
may arrive in its place soon after. If there is still ant activity after
two weeks, try to locate other trail/nest areas for targeted baiting
To help prevent future ant issues, we offer ongoing protection plans. Our Silver and Gold Plans include continued monitoring and treatment to keep infestations under control. We’ll also share tips on maintaining an ant-free environment and keeping your pets safe.
